Gather, all ye who long to be bewitched by markings etched upon vellum!
Oh, to be whisked away into worlds of the unknown.
Sometimes idyllic, other times horrifying.
Though always, somehow, pleasant.
The mind calmed, expanded, excited, aroused.
All enacted by the written word.
Yeah, yeah, I know. It's the hip new thing to be into this series, but it's popular for a reason. Lemme tell ya something. The last time I devoured series this quickly was probably when I was a kid. Harry Potter (RIP JK Rowling - the P stands for piss), A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Twilight Saga were ones I actively devoured and couldn't put down. In more recent years, that's basically only happened with the John Dies At The End series and a bunch of Chuck Palahniuk books. I read all the DCC's 1-7 between January 2026-April 2026 (with around a month break, too), which I really didn't even think as possible for me. That's such a nice ability to rediscover! That I can just whole hog a book and have a wonderful time doing so. So thanks for that, Matt Dinniman!

Beware, heavy spoilers afoot!
Heh, a foot, get it?
If you can't read everything, zoom out a little bit.
I do not know what I am doing.
This book is good! Some friends I met last year were like "You've got to read this series, it's incredible! It took me a little while, but I eventually got to work. I hadn't read a litRPG before, but it looks like this style of book is completely up my alley. Every time a character got some cool piece of gear, I had the same "Oh FUCK yes!" reaction I have when I get something great in a video game. The whole premise and writing style immediately hooked me. The characters, first off, are each very distinct and easy to fall in love with. The titular Carl can come off as a bit brash and abrasive at times, but he always cares about everyone. Sometimes to a fault. He can be a bit psycho sometimes, too. You get a taste of that in this book, but oh man does he get wild in the later novels. This book served as a wonderful start to a series that is now beloved to me. It was a bit horrifying when they fought that one lady and were like "Oh shit, she's just a repurposed human from the surface."
The second book definitely amped some things up! You begin to see that that's a pattern pretty early on. There were some new faces that were introduced that were fun to get to know a bit. Learned some interesting things about Elites and NPCs in general. Especially the storylines that they are part of, that span multiple floors sometimes. That whole storyline with Tsaria Signet was cool. Crazy-ass giant circus tent. Tsaria in general was awesome, with all her tattoos that can move around and come off her body to fight. The Krasue were wild, disgusting things, flying around with their guts hanging out. I like how those animated Beanie Baby plushies reappear throughout the series. Also, the whole part near the end with that giant crystal bomb that ended up being the titular Carl's Doomsday Scenario was absurd. Who knows if/when he will ever use it, but I'm fuckin' here for it.
I sure hope you like colors and numbers! There are a shit ton of them in this book. Also, depending on your flavor of autism, this might very well be your favorite one in the series. Shitty jokes aside, this book was so good, and I really, really, really like Katia. She took a little bit to warm up to at first, but man, she's great. So badass, and her ability to change shape and everything was used to some very gory lengths with that train scene. You know the one. So much blood and guts. So many dead critters. Oh yeah, and the fact that the enemies would get tougher as the level went on was fucked up, especially since they were afflicted by some sort of hivemind disease that would make them more crazy and strong. Fuck, how could I go this whole time without mentioning the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook?! That one item alone was SO resourceful in getting Carl equipped with some awesome gear and giving him some amazing insider knowledge of how this whole shindig works. What a neat concept. Especially how he needs to keep it a secret or else it stops working as intended. I love how it's been a thing throughout the series now too, not just this book. Lastly, that Ring of Divine Suffering Carl was given has proven to be very instrumental in him gaining a ton of power throughout the series. Such an awesome, scary dangerous item.
I found this one to be a bit odd at first and took a little while to get into things. Which is saying things, because it's not like it was boring. I think the world was a bit strange, where everyone was separated in these different giant domes, but separated further into other biomes inside those domes. This one really went places though, and it was nice getting a grip on a sense of the layout and how everything's connected. Depending on what they tackled first, it'd fuck up some other areas. Onwards to things they saw! Giant biomechanical chainsaw bird? Check. Invincible goose? Check. One that's also inside of a floating Up house? Double check. A ton of Feral Gods released because of the titular Gate of the Feral Gods? A very large few checks. This is also the book where we were introduced to Psamanthe! She's a fuckin character, that's for sure. She'll kill someone's mother sometime, I just know it. I really liked the crazy squid fight underwater, and that whole stuff with Emberus at the end. Carl's now worshipping him, and it's been a bit of a mixed bag. Oh, also, Carl fucking ripped off Quan Ch's arm!
Oh man, this book was so fucking good. I mean, they're all good, but this one was mostly a toooon of fighting. Lot of Carl marking guys and blowing shit up. That Ring of Divine Suffering is some seriouis business. The hunters were all being a bunch of cowards and cheats a lot of the time, and it was wonderful to see them all fucked up. Every single one. There's been so many firsts in Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, which makes me interested to read an entire book that took place back in the days of the first Dungeon Crawler World. The Butcher's Masquerade was interesting in the way that the hunters and crawlers couldn't interact with one another, but they eventually found a way, and holy shit what a climactic ending. Katia getting revenge (and the Crown of the Sepsis Whore...) was an "Oh shit!" moment on both ends of the spectrum.
Calling all Chaos Witch Queelag stans! Bedlam, you say? A bride, too? Oh, you're saying Shi Maria's a giant spider that might make me mad and blind if I look in her third eye? Sure, I'll try anything once! This one had a really weird premise, with them being in a world that was a recording of their planet taking shortly before the collapse. Seeing all the people walking around (but they're just ghosts), but having all the cars and non organic matter be corporeal and pile up and clutter up the place really added to the chaos of this floor. They also added a whole new mechanic never before seen to the series (at least the books, idk about in universe), with all the cards. Time to get your d-d-d-d-duel on! I liked the mechanic, but am glad it was just there for one issue. Cool they got to take a card with them at least. There were some crazy things that happened in this one. The whole crab jizz demon fiasco was rather insane. Carl got possessed by Shi Maria and she gave him a sick spider eye tat and made him eat a dude's eye, so that's something. Nothing like getting sucked up into the sky during a huge demon event to access the next floor.
Alright Crawlers, get out there and kill, kill, kill! There's a lot of that that's going on this time, cuz it's finally Faction Wars, baby! This one had, so far, some of the most INSANE things that happened in the series. The large tower that Donut shot lasers from! The multiple factions all fighting against our Crawlers! But! But, but, but! There were a bunch of previous Crawlers who joined the Princess Posse, which was so fucking cool. Especially how some of them were fellow Cookbook owners! The scene with Li Na using her horrifying spells and skills to get into Club Vanquisher was scary as hell. She's fucked up. Also, Donut doing 3 atrocities, giving her a new class was interesting. That big ball was fun, a nice callback to one of the earlier books. She raised the dead and made a bunch of those Fleshers, which was just so unsettling. Oh, also, Carl helped kill Lucia Mar's second dog when they were attacking Donut. Rend fucking misted that thing. Getting back to it, that climactic Smack. Smack. Smack. atrocity was so, so crazy. Suspend everyone and basically meat grate them all to death. No thank you, I sure wouldn't wanna go like that. At least I don't think I would... Speaking of that, Li Na, with another Ring of Divine Suffering, marked everyone during that part and is now MAXED OUT?! Stats 300's across the board? No thank you. Would be a crazy tough encounter for sure, even if she can't heal at the moment. Even scarier if/when she eventually kills every single person she marked. Just gott stay on her good side and everyone should be fine, right? Lastly, goodbye Katia, hope you have a good time on the surface, being pregnant and missing an arm, a leg, and some other parts. Excited to see what else she'll be capable of doing on the surface, even if she's out of the game, she could still end up fucking a ton of people up somehow, probably.
